Today Tryon Palace is a historical experience. The palace now showcases an outstanding collection of antiques and art. The grounds are extensively landscaped in English formal gardens, a kitchen garden and wilderness garden areas. Tours are provided for groups or individuals daily. One can visit the main house, the gardens or the other historic homes surrounding the Palace estate. With the addition of the new North Carolina History Center the tours can even include interactive devices, videos, and audio information providing the visitor with a virtual experience back to the 18th century (The History Center, 2012).
The Tryon Palace was built as a showcase for the royal governor and his empire. And even after its demise the palace remained such a strong symbol of North Carolina’s history that people rallied for its restoration. Today the palace is providing future generations the ability to learn about North Carolina’s history in a fun and innovative way
